DVD Monkey Goes West, The
image
This looks very good. Both exterior and studio parts of the movie are rendered in very rich colours, there are no specks to be seen, and the image is very smooth. you could hardly expect anything better for such an old film.
sound
Unlike many other Shaw bros. reissues, the original soundtrack has not been meddled with here, or very soberly. However there is no humming to complain about either, the songs sound just terrific, as much of the rest.
subtitles
Perfect.
special features
Almost none.
menus
As good as they come.
quality/price ration
It is sad the film should be presented in such a bare-bones edition, which could almost make you opt for the VCD instead. However, the quality of the restoration makes the purchase worthwhile.
